This week's Thursday Movie Picks is TMP Television Edition - Family

---

I had to think about this quite a bit. For some reason I'm not quite remembering as many Family TV shows that I've probably seen. Here are the ones that I do remember and love.

Jane the Virgin (2014 - )
The series follows Jane, who get mistakenly artificially inseminated. So ignore the lame basic premise and super awful title that I'm sure has driven some potential viewers away...I almost didn't watch it too. This series is so so good. It's sweet, it's funny, it has fun with itself with the whole telenovella stuff...it really has a good sense of humor and it is such a heartwarming dramedy. This is also the only family friendly series depicting a family today.

Peaky Blinders (2013 - )
Love this series. I was one of my picks for the period drama TV series theme. The gist - set after World War 1, it follows the fictional Shelby family as they run their legitimate and criminal business. The series feels like a modern crime drama series with its pacing and style...that and the modern rock music used throughout that fits in so well.

Animal Kingdom (2016 - )
The gist: when a teen boy's mom dies, he goes to live with the family he has never met: grandma and four uncles who all lead a life of crime specializing in heists. If you've seen Animal Kingdom the movie and like it or love Peaky Blinders, you should definitely check out Animal Kingdom the TV series. I enjoyed the first season, but I think part of me was also preoccupied in comparing the movie and the TV series. However, the second series has gone way past the timeline/material depicted in the movie that it was fun seeing what new stuff the series was coming up with. Thus I found the second season a much more addictive watch, especially to see where everyone's alliance lies

Thursday Movie Picks #167: Just Not Funny Comedies

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Just Not Funny Comedies

---

One of those genres where I often go...what...people like this? They found this funny? It could be a cultural/language thing? Comedy is just one of those genres that doesn't translate well.

The Hangover (2009)
Just didn't find it that funny. Maybe it appeals more to guys?

Wedding Crashers (2005)
I've watched it again recently. Still feel pretty much the same way as The Hangover.

Ace Ventura (1994/1995)
Don't know which one I saw (probably both of them?) thought it was one of the worst things I had ever seen. So not a fan of slapstick/physical comedy.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
Like I think I get it...like we're suppose to laugh at these ridiculous sexist fools in the seventies and say can't believe these things used to happen...except it still does and I saw this in late October early November of last year, so yeah, could not find it funny.

Thursday Movie Picks #166: Financial World

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Financial World

---

I'm going sans computer today so it will have to be another short post. Plus today is one of those what-was-I-thinking sort of theme. I have only watched 3 movies about the financial world so here they all are.

Wall Street (1987)
I remember nothing other than yeah it was an entertaining movie. Question - is the sequel worth a watch?

Margin Call (2011)
It follows an investment bank in a 24 hour period as they realise their assets are junk and tries to quickly sell them off before the rest of the world finds it too. Like it's so terrible...a lot of people made a lot of money selling junk. Anyway the movie was really good.

Big Short (2015)
It attempts to tell a story and explain the financial crisis to a layperson...which it does decently I think.

Thursday Movie Picks #165: Animated Films Geared Towards Adults

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is Animated Films Geared Towards Adults [Suggested by Brittani Burnham]

---

Today's theme is a suggestion from Brittani. I don't watch a lot of animated films so this is a tough week for me so I'm going to do a real quick one.

Persepolis (2007)
If you've read the graphic novel and like it, you'll probably like the movie too, it looks very much like the novel.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
I don't remember much of the story other than I like it and that it is very Wes Anderson in it's quirkiness. If you like his movies, you'll probably like this one too.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Another stop motion animation and it's also a musical. I love how it looks and the songs in this are pretty awesome as well.

Thursday Movie Picks #164: TMP Television Edition - High School

Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

---

This week's Thursday Movie Picks is TMP Television Edition - High School

---

I still do enjoy high school series, they're light and fun and offers a break from some of the more gloomy serious dramas. Here are the ones I like past and present.

Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990–2000)
This was probably the first high school series I saw. I was very very young when I saw this, but I do remember liking it a lot. I actually didn't know it was on air for so long, I think I only saw it up until the end of high-school for the major characters.

The O.C. (2003–2007)
I love love the O.C. I saw the first season again recently, yes its soapy but I still love it. It was the series that introduced me to the San Diego Comic Con, and a few years later the con became this huge media machine. I also think it's the high-school series with the best soundtrack. I you haven't listened yet, go check it out on Spotify. ♫ C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A here we come !!!

Gossip Girl (2007–2012)
Totally soapy, but soo fun. Also geek me love that all its episode titles, other than the pilot, are fun twist on movie titles.

Degrassi: Next Class (2016 – )
I've never seen the other Degrassi series other than this new spinoff which is on Netflix and I really like it. It feels very current with its story lines, decent acting and has the most diverse cast than any of the high school series I've ever seen.

Riverdale (2017– )
While I don't love love it, I like that they took the Archie comic that we know and made it into small town mystery that's moody and gloomy. I just wish it's a little better written and performed. However, the mystery is interesting enough so I will keep on watching.

Bonus

Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000)
I saw this again recently and it's such a pity that it was canceled just after one season because I think it really is one the best high school series. It's 80's setting was fun and the show itself is often very funny.
